Self-Hosting : A New Chapter

Sometimes when it gets too comfortable, you should let those alarm bells ring because believe it or not, too much comfort is not conducive to progress. Every once in a while, you need to get up from that couch of yours, dust those crumbs of potato chips off yourselves and do something that scares you, challenges you. Basically, scares the bejesus out of you. Stagnating in one place is never really a great idea, comfortable maybe but never wise. Stagnant water breeds mosquitoes so that should tell you it’s never good. So, with that in mind, I decided that enough was enough. It was time to change, time to take the symbolic plunge.

If having two full-time jobs wasn’t enough, one as a mother (yes, trust me it’s a full-time job no matter how much one sugarcoats it) and another as a Test Lead in the IT Industry (surprise surprise) , I decided to make the long impending move to self-hosting. No, let me rephrase that, from blogger to WordPress and self-hosting.

Ladies and gentlemen, without stalling further, I present to you the new look of Random Thoughts Naba. Share on X

I can’t believe I made the move, that I went from Blogger to WordPress and Self-Hosting. It seems like a dream, one that had been in the periphery of my vision for quite some time now.

Now, before I proceed, I have to say that none of this would have been possible without Sid, of course. Yes, the awesome Daddy from the popular Daddy Journals. He’s a genius. No, he’s the daddy of the geniuses available when it comes to a move as scary as this. I cannot thank him enough for working relentlessly on my site.

You are a rockstar, Sid! You really are.

Making a move to a self-hosted site is like moving to college as a fresher. It is exciting and scary at the same time. It truly is. You have start from scratch and none of the laurels of the past really matter. What matters is how you do going forward. And that’s how I feel exactly. That’s where I am now. After almost 6 years of blogging, I start again. This is really intimidating.

When I first started blogging, I had no clue that I would stick to it for so long. I love writing and had journals before but blogging was completely new to me.

Random Thoughts Naba was born in the year 2010, the most difficult year in my life so far. I was frustrated and even depressed. Everything and everyone seemed unfair and out to get me. The bitter aftertaste of that year still lingers. But that’s a discussion for another day.

This blog actually took shape when I started blurting out my frustration and anger on Twitter. That’s when my sister suggested I write down my feelings in a blog instead. And so started my journey with Random Thoughts Naba.

While I started blogging to deal with the bad in my life, I have only got good in return. I started it during troubled times and now it is my pathway to being happy. It is one of my ‘good things’ in life.

From 2010 to the present day, it has been quite a journey. Little did I know at the beginning that it would come to this, that I wouldn’t be able to imagine my life without this blog. I cannot begin to tell you how restless I was during the days my blog was unavailable due to the work being done on it. So, from a depressed girl taking out her frustrations through writing, I have indeed come a long way. Yes, I still write just about everything on the blog but gradually over the years my views have changed, my outlook and my response have changed. I’d like to think I have grown and matured with the blog. And I intend to continue this process for as long as I can.

Writing is cathartic, therapeutic and my blog is exactly that and more for me. It is my window to the world. It is a part of me. It is me.

So, I welcome you to my blog again and hope that you continue showering it with love.

Wish me luck, folks.

Thank you and see you in the next post.

Ciao

Just moved to a custom domain and only still toying with the self-hosting idea. Still unsure and mighty scared too. Looks like I’ll be running over to Sid when I take the decision. Hope he’s hearing but not running away 😀
