A Writer of Courage and Conviction – Sarojini Sahoo

Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed.  If I fail, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.”  They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes.” said Clare Boothe Luce. This is so true especially in a patriarchal society like ours where Women need to overcome massive stumbling blocks to achieve something in life. It won’t be wrong to say that it is also the responsibility of women to break the shackles of the orthodox society and provide a better future for women folk. Sarojini Sahoo is someone who does the same by the sway of her pen.

  1. i would have to diasggree with you on this one Naba..it might have been true about 15-20 years ago..but now? do people still think that way? except for a few misogynistic mcp's? i dont think its fair to label all men as thinking that way..women have been kicking ass for soo long that its men who have to now measure up to their standards- atleast in my profession of medicine..

  2. As I see it there are both sides existing simultaneously in our society. both the guys looking down at the women, and the guys who recognise the power in a woman.

  3. 70 % of our population is in the villages… when a substatial percentage of men in the urban areas itself hold some shocking views regarding women.. I do not think much has changed for women in the rural areas who constitute a large chunk of our society… I am sure if u do a little research u will come face to face with horrific truths that still exist today…

  4. i do agree with Nabanitha that though more men are jerking out themselves of the thinking that women have to prove themselves, over all that is a very short percentage.

  5. @Nabanita: Everyone will have something different to say about women's empowerment. Its a sensitive topic. But I personally feel that women are the only ones who can truly decide whether to be weak or strong in various difficult circumstances. Lets not forget that where there are thousands of nameless victims, we do have someone like Phoolan Devi too. Also, I suggest people read more about the Barefoot college of Tilonia. One will be surprised at how much these illiterate women have achieved and outdone the men. Do watch this video: http://www.ted.com/talks/bunker_roy.html
You will be amazed at how much women can do. Loved this post Nabanita! Keep up the good work.

  6. …kinda herditary social problem… removal/replacement of genes should do, alike for diabetics. I see it's getting replaced here and there.
