About the Author (In his own words from Amazon.com)

The third and the last installment of my parent’s contribution towards the ever-increasing population of India came in 1978 when I took my first breath in a small town in Odisha. After absorbing the essence of its critical values and unshackling the barriers of its complicated mindset, I left the small town after graduation and thus started the odyssey, of learning and unlearning the various perspectives of life, and towards building a career, of course, for survival and a bit of comfort. I have shuffled between Kolkata and Bangalore for professional reasons. A chartered accountant and a Banker for last 9 years; I am presently posted in Bangalore.

I am married to somebody, whom I love since I was fourteen. She is presently a homemaker but an extremely busy woman; really, it takes a lot to raise a six years old kid (my daughter) and the toddler in me.

I have been writing short stories in my blog http://authoramit.blogspot.in. “Sorry… Again???” is my first novel.

Blurb about the book (From amazon.com):

Sid is the inevitable effect of what a small town upbringing brings to the city life. A self-confessed “unromantic”, somewhere in his simple exterior lies a weak preacher, whose yardsticks of life change radically when the unpredictability of life starts experimenting with him.

Anushka, armed with her unselfconscious beauty and poisons imbued into her life, has declared war on the world of men from a young age.

Their romance, even after her protest, is ignited by a train robbery that becomes unforgettable for reasons other than the robbery, catches the warmth because of an adolescent romance that reaches consummation, but remains within the periphery because of a live-in relationship that is on the verge of break-up.

They fall in love, but somebody is not happy with their relationship. Sid is threatened. Will he rise above his fear this time?

Now for my view:

With the last few months being quite hectic on all possible fronts, I wasn’t able to complete reading this book in time. Infact, I have only read about three books in a span of three months which is definitely not to my liking. But then I picked up ‘Sorry Again..???’ and in between chores managed to finally put it in my ‘Already Read’ list.

So as you must have read in the blurb already the story is about the emotional turmoil of love between Sid and Anushka. Fate seems to have entwined them together so they meet first during a train journey and then again several years later. The proximity coupled with the reminiscence of Sid standing firmly with Anushka during a robbery by bandits on their train journey together creates a pull. Both feel it, Sid a degree more for he is the eternal romantic.

Anushka who had shut the door to love, infact to men, due to her past also feels the pull. They get together finally when fate brings them in the same city and the same apartment building. But what happens next? Does Anushka find the faith to forget the past and stride wholeheartedly into the world of love? Do they find the happily ever after? And who is it that comes in between the two? Does he or she succeed in keeping them apart? That is what the book is about. Though I now have answers to all these questions but I can’t tell you, can I? It would take the fun out of your reading the tale and I wouldn’t want to do that.

I liked the opening of the book. It made me want to flip through pages. It created an interest in me as I wondered what could have happened that made Sid leave Kolkata in such a hurry.

Though in the middle I felt the story was dragged a little too much, I was happy to see it lift its pace after a while. Amit Singh has done a good job in knitting a story that has so many dimensions. Usually a love story is only a love story but there is something more to ‘Sorry Again…?’ And that adds to the positives of this book.

There are some Hindi words in this English narrative which I don’t find attractive in a book. But let me re-iterate that doesn’t take anything away from the story. I do understand it is necessary perhaps due to the premise of the book.

All in all it is a good read. If you patiently go through the book, you’ll actually find this story satisfying. If you happen to grab a copy, let me know if you like it too.

  1. Thanks a lot Naba, I understand you had to juggle up a lot many things, so thanks again.
When I read about the Hindi word thing, I was a bit surprised because even I hate Hindi words and phrases in English narrative, but then I realised those two words, one spoken by the Dacoit and the other by the taxi driver. I can understand your objection.
Did those two words kill my .5 points, I really hate those words even more now 🙂
    Thanks
