Now for my View:

Truly, Madly, Deeply is a story that revolves around two teenagers- Rahul and Seema. Rahul is a 16 year old who excels in every field he ventures into. Be it academics, extra-curricular activities or looks, Rahul tops it all and probably outclasses everyone else. But hang on a second; it’s not that Seema lags behind in any aspect either. She is everything Rahul is except for the fact that she is a junior to Rahul by a year. As a teenage love story with all the right ingredients, it would make you recollect your school days. The first crush that made you blush; the unknown feeling in your heart that made even the mushiest of songs play when that one person was around or the eagerness to sit with that special person in class; yes those very memories and feelings would resurface as you flip through the pages of this book. It is a quintessential love story and what adds to the charm of it all are the quotes and poems in the book.
The promising love story between Seema and Rahul however gets disrupted due to a series of misunderstandings. Ego clashes creep in and they drift apart. Rahul withdraws into a depressed and crestfallen teenager.  What happens next? Well it wouldn’t be fair if I told you, would it?
Faraaz Kazi, I must say, has an excellent command on the language. As you turn the pages of his novel, you would realise that it perhaps is an honest expression of love with nuances of the author’s own experiences. If this is the level of his work in his debut novel, I can only imagine what his forthcoming works would be like! The philosophical undertone in his work is noteworthy and works in his favour.
There are only a few things in this novel which perhaps do not sink in with me as a reader, for example, a seductive mistress at the age of 15 or inclination towards being overtly filmy in some portions. But then as it is fiction and a love story at the same time, you can’t really complain much, can you?
There is so much maturity in the way Faraaz Kazi writes that at times in this book the dialogues do not seem appropriate for a teenager. But this also leads you to believe that perhaps Faraaz would do an excellent job with a mature love story in the future. I certainly am waiting to see him write something along those lines. Truly, Madly, Deeply would also make you realise that Faaraz Kazi is a passionate writer and any writer whose obsession for writing is visible in his work is a great writer in my mind!
All in all, Truly, Madly, Deeply is indeed as the title suggests a true journey into the mad hallways of deep love. Faraaz Kazi does a commendable job and surely deserves a chance to grace your book shelves through this book and perhaps more books in the future!

  1. This is an excellent review. However from your review I could not get much about the portrayal of the characters and connectivity aspect of the characters with the common reader like us. The success of character portrayal is known by the degree of involvement from the reader.
