First impressions are always important. And no matter how superficial it sounds, what you wear goes a long way in deciding those crucial mental impressions formed during first encounters. This is especially true when it comes to your professional life. Like it or not, wearing the right attire decides, at most times, if you are one to be taken seriously or not.
Now, combine first impressions with your first day at office. What you have is a combination you wouldn’t ever want to get wrong. When my sister joined a new organization last week, I realized all over again how important looking the part is for success. How important wearing the right thing to office is, especially on your first day.
“Good clothes open all doors.” ― Thomas Fuller
If you are a working man or woman, you already realize how important
formal wear is. The luxury of wearing jeans and t-shirts, an everyday staple during your college life, becomes limited to Fridays mostly. And it’s not really a bad thing either. If anything, I feel this is a welcome change. But choosing and wearing the right kind of formals, is not everyone’s cup of tea.
More often than not formals are associated with boring monotones. But that doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, there is much, much more to formals than blacks and grays. Who can beat a man dressed in a pair of crisp formal trouser and shirt? It gives an edge to your confidence. Although, I can’t speak much for the variety available for men but women have countless options when it comes to formal clothing. From trousers to skirts and even dresses, shirts to tops, the choices are numerous. And not just that, there are various cuts and designs for all of those. To add to that in India, sarees and salwar kameezes are also considered formals. However, in the corporate world there is a slightly greater bend towards western formals these days. The bottom line here is there are options, options and some more options always available for formals. You just need to pick the right one.
When it comes to dressing for the first day in office, you might want to choose something that you not only carry off well but are comfortable in too. Smart, formal dressing is the right way to start your first day apart from the other pre-requisites of-course.
After the clothes to wear, come the shoes. And how can you forget the shoes? No attire is complete without that perfect pair of shoes. And you cannot wear just any with a formal attire. Of-course, there are no dearth of choices for shoes as well when it comes to women’s formal clothing. But you need to be sure you pick the right ones for yourself.
So, with the right set of clothes, shoes and some well-coordinated accessories you would be ready for that unforgettable first impression at work on your very first day, good unforgettable that is. And then everyday thereafter.
You are right. It is said that 'First impressions are best impressions'…Though this saying is not right…!
Absolutely right…. first impression is the last impression
