Life is not about the Chase!

The non-stop marathon called life makes us dash towards an ever evading finish line. Life bereft of time to live; yes that’s the sad reality of our existence these days. There is no time for anything other than the maddening rush that we are part of. And before we know it, life gets over and what remains is remorse at not having stopped to do what we really wanted to.
Sadly the only time we actually led carefree lives was at that juncture when our responsibilities ended with our grades. Yes when we were children; a time when our lives were limited to books, games and schools. But no sooner than we entered the real world; no sooner than we became accountable to our parents, society and the world at large; things changed and that too at an alarming pace.
Every day for at-least five days of the week, our lives pass by in a scurry while the weekend elapses in an effort to regain the vigor to get back again to our mundane routine. In all this what slips by is the essence of living. Think about it, when was the last time we took time out for our passion?
We postpone everything for the future but who could tell us for sure if that future actually exists or not. There is no better time than the present to do what our heart begs us to. Actually every now and then it is good to be led only by our heart rather than our brain.
If not anything else, then just to satiate the soul within us we need to stop from time to time and take a note of the things we wish to do. The book we desire to read and the trip we wish to take; there is not going to be any better time to do that. The future is nothing but oblivion. It’s all about permutations and combinations; in fact who even knows if there is even any such thing as the future? And even if there is, who knows if we would still be there to welcome it! It won’t be surprising if the dominoes of life might bring our fall much before that eagerly anticipated future of ours.
So waiting any further is not only futile but a gamble we might end on the losing side of. Life is not to be frittered away; it is far too precious to be left at the mercy of the imperceptible.
Before it’s too late we need to stop and hold the hands of the people we care for and tell them what they mean to us. We need to take time out for our parents; siblings and friends for we never know when time would stop being on our side; when the clock of life would stop ticking!
And this is all the more important for us women because we have so many responsibilities and expectations passed onto us that not only do we end up ignoring our desires; our passions but those that are important to us as well. Look at what happens once a woman is married; she is taken for granted and expected to be this hands-on servant around the house at the beck and call of her in-laws; husband and later kids. Taking time out for her parents and her own self becomes a rare luxury. That’s blasphemous to the very gift of life and shouldn’t happen; never at all.
Without waiting for the last minute we need to pack our bags and stop thinking about our boss and career for once. Women need to also stop thinking about what their in-laws would say for their lives are not of the in-laws’ to own. All of us need to step out, take a break and take a detour in our lives to live one that is worth living. Being a slave to the temporal world is not what life is all about, well at-least not always! That list we had of the things to do before we die; that is not to be tucked away, for at any moment life as we know it could come to a halt.

Wait for me, don’t rush ahead.
Look around for the happiness spread.
I am not about the turns you dread,
But a haven of inhibitions shed.
Stop, laugh and gently tread,
My path, for that, not the chase, is the elixir instead!

  1. and for the very reason life is all about living. We can think of our melodious past, worry about our present and in a process may ruin our future, instead we must enjoy the very essence of life… its struggle to live everyday.

  4. That's a very thought provoking post. We all get so busy in the rut of life that we forget the core purpose why it all started. I liked concept of taking a detour…
