She Quit!

They tortured her when she first entered their abode. Cloaked by a false sense of superiority they hurt her feelings and made her toil hard.

As days passed her eyes lost the sparkle they always had. She looked a fading shadow of her old self.

Disappointed, she wanted a way out. But they laughed, ridiculed her fallacy.

“You are stuck here” they said.

“Are they right?” she thought.

A year passed and then two.

One day she walked in with a letter in her hand. They read it surprised. Their mocking smiles vanished.

She had the last laugh. She quit!

  1. Glad she had the courage to walk out. Head held high.
Nabanita, I have been reading your posts, off and on. Sometimes I am too lazy to comment and other times just too overwhelmed by the time spent in the virtual world. I remember your post on Malala – Mia Woman. It stayed with me. I have read some of your short fiction too. It was so good to see you on my blog! Thank you.

  2. Ohh thank you for the kind words Alka … I love your posts and the way you write… the last one was just amazing!

  3. Ah, I knew that your current state of mind is going to amply demonstrate itself in your writing! Kudos to her and good luck to you!

  4. Nice post based on a prompt. Initially I thought it was a new bride and it was going to end in some way that she had a last laugh 🙂

  5. Looked like a girl resigning from work…later I thought- May be this is about a girl stuck in a torturous house after marriage and the paper in her hand was a divorce paper..I swayed between these two thoughts till I discovered the correct option in the comments 🙂 Nice attempt to prompt 🙂

  6. Such a positive & hopeful story, Naba. Glad she started a new life rather than resorting to end her life, like many women do…

  7. A resignation letter ! a final answer to those who are continuously bullying women in workplace – those people will be guilty after all. Few yet powerful words…Good luck!
