As clichΓ©d as it sounds life is like a marathon. We are all in it as participants, running towards the finish line oblivious to all that matters around us. For us it is the end of the race, the forever evading end that is more important than anything else. It is for us the promise of good times ahead, a worthy harvest for all the hard-work we put in day in and day out.
But sometimes before we even touch that fading ribbon at the end, our time runs out. The race ends abruptly and we are left lamenting about the what-if’s and have-not’s. Fact is life is too short and too precious to whirl away galloping; leaving everything else aside for a future that might not even exist. That spot beyond the finishing line might never actually be ours. So why not live in the present? Why not stop and live this beautiful life? Why not appreciate the things we infallibly ignore tangled in mundane materialism? The sunrise for example. Have you looked at one lately? It’s beautiful, isn’t it? But then it is also among those occurrences from our hackneyed existence that we miss out on.
Sunrise stands for hope. With every sunrise begins a new day, a chance to start afresh. But we more often than not turn a blind eye to this spectacle. Maybe if we just paused for a moment life would become a tad bit easier to live. What do you think? Would you stop and marvel at the elegance of a sunrise for a change instead of putting it aside it for that day of leisure that might never exist?
Sometimes life in itself gets claustrophobic. And if we don’t stop at the right moment to make time, life just passes us by. I have promised myself to live more in the present rather than postpone it for a day that might dawn without me around. So the next time I see a sunrise or a moonlit sky, I’m going to enjoy it for these are the little gifts that make life worth its while!
