Top 10 Commonly Broken Resolutions

My article on http://topyaps.com

Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.  ~Author Unknown
Resolutions, my friends, are exactly that- a revamped start to the age old habits. Be it the New Year’s Eve or just an ordinary day full of self realization; we tend to make promises to ourselves which for reasons known and at times unknown take us through the same trodden path all over again.

How many times have you tried to quit smoking? Or, how often have you promised yourself of adhering to a healthy diet? Far too many to even remember isn’t it? Well you are not the only one; we are all the same; like peas in a pod as they say! But what are those habits that seem so reluctant to leave us; habits that stay with us and manage to be glued to our lives inspite of all the resolutions. They say β€˜a resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.’ Let us find out what are those top ten resolutions that get broken every other day and every other time one makes them!

  1. Good one…. I always promise myself i'll join the gym, but never do πŸ™‚

  2. Mmm! I only resolve not to make any resolutions…so far I hv succeeded in keeping that resolution:):)

  3. i often make resolution to join a dance class, but everytime it remains undone πŸ™

  4. Not sure why we make so many resolutions that we know are bound to be broken in a few months..:((

  5. if it were not for who has written it, this post would have been passed up as fast as possible. terribly guilt-inducing topic. going over to read it now.

  6. That's so true! I think, taking short term resolutions is far more better than long term resolutions. It is easier to implement. Only gradually it can be converted into a long term one. Say for eg, if I take 'I won't eat junk food for the next week', then it's easy to implement. Then after one week, take a break and again implement it for the next one week.. then gradually good things become our habit.
I experimented this style myself and it worked well.

  7. Absolutely Guilt Provoking post. I have been thinking lately about my last new year's resolution (first ever NY resolution) wherein i promised myself that i'll learn swimming this year. I have been learning it for a week now and i was happy that i actually pushed myself for it πŸ˜€

About the "TENS" you have mentioned here, i have seen people promising themselves over these things. They are really TOP 10.

P.S. I always used to promise myself during school days to "Study seriously from the next Semester", that i always ended up breaking! πŸ˜›

  8. Every year I make a resolution that I will not make a resolution for the rest of the year. But as is the case with resolutions, I break that very resolution and make a resolution which in the end I shall break again. Confused yet!

  9. 1. Not losing my cool
    2. Lose weight/healthy life style.

If not every week, every month I resolve to do these things, I wouldn't be writing this if I had kept any πŸ˜‰

  10. I resolve to take atleast an hour just for myself everyday among other things..but its so darn difficult to come through with it!

  11. I keep telling myself that I'll eat healthier…. but fresh fried bajjis and pakoras always end up derailing me! πŸ˜›

  12. LOL – I totally qualify for the healthy eating one! πŸ˜‰ Its so difficult to stay away from food. I was never a foodie, but restricting yourself makes you yearn so much more for it! Doesn't it? πŸ™‚ Nice article! Haven't you entered the Dove contest this time?

  13. nice "Reminder" POST ! I am almost breaking my resolution of 35-40 kms everyday ! I promise every night … I will jog 45 -50 kms and return jogging only 10 kms … thinking I'll fresh-start from tomorrow !:)

  14. Oh yes Deepa.. I love my burgers and pizzas and can't get enough of it…..! I'll submit my entry soon for the Dove Contest, m just being really lazy πŸ™‚

  15. Nice post..Every time I make resolution, that I will not take up any art and craft project, until I finish one. But break it every time. And end up in working simultaneously 2-3 projects…uhh…
And the other one is "Exercise daily" πŸ™‚
