A Holiday with Mom!

A mother is one to whom you hurry when you are troubled said Emily Dickinson. You can go anywhere in the world but none can compare to the comfort and love that you get in your mother’s dwelling more so if you are a woman. The monotony and the harsh realities of life vanish magically at just the touch of her hand; yes that’s the magical aura of a mother.
A woman’s life is multi-faceted. She dawns diverse roles at different junctures of her life and goes on non-stop till she is covered by the cloak of death. Life in general isn’t easy and when you are born as a girl it becomes a touch more complex more so in a country like ours. But there is something within each girl which helps every daddy’s princess and mother’s angel transform easily into the dutiful daughter-in-law and the doting wife. Finally she becomes a mother and their starts another roller-coaster ride of her very existence. Well the bottom line is there is no time to stop once the journey of a woman begins.
What do you do when you are fatigued with the stress of life? You plan for a vacation away from the burgeoning demands of life. You think of a beach destination or a hill station and you look forward to a relaxing retreat. But think for a moment who is that one person who continues working during your vacation as well? You wife or the daughter-in-law of the house or your mother; yes it is always a woman who takes care of everything thing right from your packing to making sure everything you need is at your disposal when you are away from home. So while you are on a vacation; she still is on her toes ensuring a hassle free holiday for you.
Where can she go then to pamper herself; to stop being on the run at all times? Perhaps to her in-law’s place? Certainly not for a holiday I am sure. While she may get all the love and care there; she still has to prove herself and work from dawn to dusk. It is a place where her duties and responsibilities shadow her without a break. So where then; isn’t there one place in the world where women can get the vacation they deserve? Well honestly there is hardly any place in the world when a woman can actually be free unless it’s her own mother’s home and that’s where I am as I pen this post.
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
~George Cooper

A realization dawns on me as I sit in the comforts of my mother’s home that no place in the world can give a woman the love and care that she gets in her mother house. She doesn’t have to wake up early nor does she have to dress a certain way. She doesn’t have to cook or wash clothes. All she has to be is the pampered daughter she has always been. All she has to do is be her mom’s little girl and let her hair down. She can eat what she actually likes and what actually is her favourite. She is the priority there and she is the one most cared for. As they say Grown don’t mean nothing to a mother.  A child is a child.  They get bigger, older, but grown?  Never! I am glad I can always stop being grown up as long as I have my mother to fall back on. And I am sure it’s the same for all the ladies out there.

  1. A fab post Naba..your last para made me nostalgic..so true a woman can get the rest, eat her favorite food, dress as she wish, does not have to cook and wash only at her mother's house..she is never grown up for her mother..a place of ultimate solace..

  2. A heartfelt post, this is! A mother is a blessing for her daughter… always, till the very end. Thank you for sharing this, Nabanita! :

  3. An invisible bond ties a child to it's mother,it is really indecipherable…boys may not express it,but they too are equally drawn to mothers.

  4. true…no one can substitute mother's love and affection. The purest form of unconditional love known to mankind is only that of a mother.
