Something about the book:

‘Marriage’ – well it may be just a word but it is heavier in meaning than anything even Hercules could have carried on his shoulders. After the convincing of parents on both sides and the D-Day, begins what is a constant process of living together. Two people trying to make a life as one, it sure isn’t easy.
‘Just Married, Please Excuse’ is about a young married couple and their journey together as they go through the ups and downs of life. The story is simple and perhaps very common but there is something in Yashodhara’s way of writing that manages to hold your attention. You will find yourself laughing out loud in between paragraphs for she adds that hilarious dimension to her words.
While reading the book, you end up identifying with Yashodhara and Vijay, the protagonists. They are very much like a modern day couple trying to juggle life, responsibilities and love. Infact they so similar to the young married couple next door or in your office.
Perhaps a lot of women will identify with Yashodhara for she is the woman of today, well settled in life with a good job and having very little idea of the cycle of responsibilities and chores at home.  For instance she doesn’t want to pretend to be this demure Indian daughter-in-law for she clearly isn’t that, but she is made to act as one to be accepted by her in-laws. She was never into cooking or managing the house which many girls of our generation could relate to for we like boys spent our growing up years studying for a better future rather than learning how to make a round rotis in the kitchen! The way Vijay handles Yashodhara’s tantrums is another thing which I can well imagine my husband vouching for. It makes me think of all the times I made life hell for my husband but he instead bore it all with a smiling face.
The meeting with parents, the wedding, the first home, the search for perfect furniture, Y’s confusion of having to wear saree to her in-law’s place, her pregnancy and tantrums, V’s attempt to deal with her mood swings, the fights, her way of dealing with being a new mother- well a lot of us, mostly those married, have been there and done that. Well if not all of it but surely a part of it. So in some ways it could well be the story of just about any couple, only here through the eyes of Yahsodhara.
The story of Yashodhara is very real perhaps that is the reason why it clicks with you; at-least that’s what I loved about the book. It is nothing out of the ordinary, but definitely worth a onetime read. Pick it up without expecting an out of the world read, pick it up without any preconceived notions and I am sure you will enjoy it.
