Something about the book (from the Book’s cover):

Every year, Elizabeth and David Beck return to Lake Charmaine, a place that has been a part of their lives ever since they were children. But on their thirteenth visit, Elizabeth is kidnapped and murdered, while David is left for dead.
For the next eight years, Dr David Beck relives the horror of what happened every single day. Although Elizabeth has been buried, and her killer waits on death row, for David it still feels as if more than one life ended that night.
Then an image of Elizabeth appears on his Computer screen. Is it just a practical joke? Or evidence that somehow Elizabeth is still alive? Suddenly Beck is chasing a ghost whose messages hold out a desperate hope – and warn him to tell no one. But soon Dr Beck himself is being hunted down….
Now for my View:

Well what can I say, except that I absolutely loved this book! A breezy read with carefully woven sub plots; it is indeed one of those that you just cannot keep aside without reading from start to finish. Well I devoured it in a couple of hours and would have done so even earlier if it weren’t for the banalities of life!
The story is about David Beck who lost the love of his life, Elizabeth, in a kidnapping and murder. Unable to leave behind that dreadful night, he moves along a mundane life for eight long years reliving the horrors of that fateful night over and over again. But all that topples when two men are found murdered and buried near the same lake where his wife was abducted. At that very juncture Beck gets an anonymous email with a link that suddenly broadcasts the live feed of his wife! Is she really back from the dead? The investigators on the other hand suddenly become hell bent on cornering Dr Beck for not only the murder of his wife but those unidentified men too. Not far from the chaos, two men torture and murder someone gruesomely under orders from their wealthy boss. The latter is coincidently also worried about the sudden emergence of Elizabeth from the grave! He not only wants Elizabeth to stay dead but is even ready to murder Dr Beck in the process. But far away from all the hullaballoo in the city, a man frequents the woods near the ominous lake where Dr. Beck’s live changed forever and he apparently knows what really happened that night. Dr Beck is on the run while being hunted down from all quarters as he fights against all odds to find Elizabeth. What happens next? Does he find Elizabeth? Well you would have to read the book to find out, wouldn’t you?
The book is a roller coaster ride encompassing elements that make it an out and out satisfying read. Childhood sweethearts turned married couple, a secluded lake house, ominous moonlit night, a sudden scream, kidnapping, murder, dead wife, mysterious dead bodies, shrewd investigating officers, anonymous emails – all these elements are entwined together in an enigmatic plot that never for a moment lets off its pace.
Harlan never for a split second lets you rest while reading, if I might put it that way. No sooner than you believe that you have figured out what might happen, he pulls the rug from under your feet and you end up staring at a different twist altogether. Trust me you would not be able to put the book down and if at all you do, you would want to come back to it without a moment’s delay!
So pick it up and enjoy a fast paced journey with twists and turns till the very last page of this splendid page turner!
