The India of Gandhi and Buddha

My post on www.newsyaps.com

Recall the Preamble that you had committed to memory in school? Well it has been enhanced in spirit as a number of its core values have undergone some wonderful paradigm shifts. The despicable idea of Secularism has been replaced by the commendable concept of Communalism; the archaic and erroneous model of Democracy has been changed to the progressive theory of Dictatorship; the bane of Equality has totally been taken off the equation; all these for the ‘betterment’ of our nation. And that’s not all; the innovative and self righteous practices of Corruption and Apathy have been included augmenting our culture and philosophy of life. Confused? Don’t be! Yes, as we stepped into the 66th year of our ‘Independence’; we have successfully rid ourselves of the India of Gandhi and Buddha! Instead we have become the India of the illustrious Kalmadi and Raja! Yes, it is the mockery of the entire nation that we have been witnessing for quiet some years now and at some point it will catapult the country to a point of no return.

Mark Twain had famously quoted about our great nation that ‘India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most astrictive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!’ Some of the earliest urban human civilizations like the Indus Valley Civilization had flourished in erstwhile western India. Our history was astounding adorned with seers, sages, scholars and chivalrous warriorsBirthplace of religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism; India was the perfect kaleidoscope of various religions existing together. Greats like Aryabhata, Gautama Buddha, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi were sons of this very soil. As a country we believed in progress of humanity but not anymore. What went wrong for India to have reached where it is today?

‘If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India.’- Romain Rolland

  1. Loved the first paragraph and puns intended.
Second one, not so much, because in my opinion, remembering history repeatedly,(not here, but collectively ) tends to make us complacent, which is the root cause of everything that is wrong with us today.

  2. Thanks Bhishma… I believe we can take lessons out of history but I can see what you mean when you say it brings complacency 🙂

  3. Gandhi bapu is a great person in all over the world. This all story read then I teach some concepts helpful in my life to change my carrier. Thanks for sharing information.
