What to eat during Menstrual Periods?

My post on something very important for women’s health in www.newsyaps.com

It’s that time of the month again, you are down with cramps, mood swings and terrible body aches. This is something women have to live with for a large part of our lives. Well seems like they sure don’t joke when they say being a woman isn’t easy!

Let us take a look into what menstrual pain and menstrual cramps during periods are. And also the diet we women could follow to reduce the same.

Periods can often be excruciating for women with menstrual cramps and pain. This leads to uneasiness and often absence of one from day to day activities.

Wiki defines Menstrual Pain as a gynecological medical condition of pain during menstruation that interferes with daily activities. It is also called as Dysmenorrhea or Dysmenorrhoea. Often Menstrual pain and menstrual Cramps are used interchangeably. But the latter is actually referred to menstrual uterine contractions which are generally of higher strength, duration and frequency than in the rest of the menstrual cycle.

There are typically two types of Dysmenorrhea-primary and secondary. While the former is the most common without any underlying cause and results in pain or cramps from a few days prior to the start of periods and may extend up to 2 to 4 days. The latter is where cramps and back pain is caused due to some underlying condition usually concerning the reproductive system.

The bloating, the pains, the mood swings, the head and body aches which are more often than not part and parcel of being a women during *that time of the month*, can be dealt with in a good way by means of a nutritious diet. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth couple of days during menstrual periods for women.

  8. The menstrual cycle begins at puberty. The first menstruation is called menarche, and typically occurs between the ages of 12-13 years. Latest research shows that girls today reach puberty earlier. Excess weight is a risk factor for early onset of puberty.
